When I used to interview applicants for a job, I always asked them to tell me a story. Why? Well, I think that you need to be able to tell a story to be able to sell. Good story-tellers grab their audience’s attention and keep their attention . . . a good story-teller can captivate and motivate . . . motivated and interested people BUY STUFF!!!
What story can you tell? That depends on you . . . but, I would recommend having one ready that relates to your job . . . if you are selling cars, you should know enough about a car or car company to tell “The Story” that gains the trust to make the sale. If you are a restaurant server, you should be able to tell “The Story” about certain menu items or the history of the restaurant . . . if it’s menu items, you need to describe everything – beyond just simple taste features – I mean, what does the item look like when it is thrown against the wall:)
Being able to tell a story is a way of gaining trust . . . and trust is how you build rapport. People buy from people that they trust and relate to.
Tell the Legendary Story:)
